In north Indian trantric tradition each mahavidya is assigned by a form of ganpati.
With each of 10 mahAvidya one or more ganpati is associated .For example Bagalamukhi – Haridra ganpati, Matangi – nritya ganpati ( matang ganpati )
In case of Dhumavati , Dhumra ganpati is assigned i.e. Dhumra ganpati is ganpati of Dhumavati mahavidya.
He is described as gloomy, old, wearing dirty white clothes. Having a garland of human skull with a smokey complexion.Having four hands in which he holds skull cup(kapAla) , danda (stick), Damru ( hand drum ) and varamudra ( fruit giving gesture ).
He is to be worshipped before dhumavati in somya and shanti karma.( mostly by dakshinachAra , shAbar vidhi )
In ugra karma ( in case of very emergency and less time he is also worshipped but by means of aghorAchar, vAmAchara only) even ganapati is not worshiped.
RishI of dhumra ganapati mantra is aghora and dhumra ganapati is devata with yajusha chhanda.
Dhumra ganapati mantra is of 11 latters with couple of dhumavati beeja instead of omkara.
There are also some shabar and aghora mantras belonging to him in which aghora mantra is most powerful and rapid fruit giver.
Most of dhumavati sadhaka recites shabar dhumra ganapati mantra 21 times before the actual dhumavati mantra sadhana for removal of obstacles. This form of ganapati is worshipped by the vAmamArga using 5 M’s for destruction of enemy .
He also can be worshipped by dakshinachara for destruction of karmic layers, grahadoshA and removal of obstacles.
I’m not giving the mantra due to secrecy of mantra and sampradaya.

There are some hand full sAdhakas of this mahAvidya. I personally known 3-4 sadhaks. I remember sri nArAnayan datta srI malI , he was a purnAbhishikta sAdhaka of this mahAvidya.

The last fellow I mentioned is no more and other 3 I know are sanyasins, aghori , they use to roam madly in our city .Only chakra tirthA is place where anyone can meet them .

dhumavAvatI upAsakas often keep themselves in darkness , they generally stay away from people and due to common misconceptions commoners rarely worship her.
In several dhumavati mantras viniyoga describes following rishIs: paippalAda , durvAsa , dattAtreya , vishvAmitra , kahola as seer of mantras as well as upAsakas of this mahAvidya. Other than rishis rAvana , meghnAda , bAnAsur (21 latter mantra , mAlAmantra , nikhumbhalAdhumrAkshI , kAkachandeshwarI ), charpatbhangan nAtha , goraksha nAtha , mAyAmachhendar nAtha , dhumrasiddhA ( shAbara + aghora )are some other upAsaaks. Even bhagvAna sharbheshwara shAluvraja and vIrabhadra were upAsakas of this vidya .( kAkachandeshwarI dhumAvatI and krodha dhumAvatI )

Although all form of ambA are able of doing so , but for tivra ( burning desire of renouncing ) vairAgaya and vAsanAshya Ugra murtIs are to be considered. Not only in case of goddess dhUmAvatI but as a genral rule.In kAli sampradAya Ugra murtis are of shamshAna kAlikA , rakta kAli , samhAra kAlI , guhya kAli etc In vaishnavas they have nrUsimha , gandabherUnda etc in shiava we have rUdra murti , bhairava murti etc .In dhUmAvati prospective Ugra dhUmAvaTi is to be worshipped. Her dhyAna sloka ( of Ugra murti ) mentions of her as widow , old , looking cruel , sited on a damaged chariot , having crow flag ( kAkadhvajA ) and alone without any consort .This all have deep meaning like old age show final destiny of human body , widow form show condition of jivA who is all alone in reality , cruelness show destructive power of mahAmAya and anger for jivA not trying to get librated , broken chariot symbolise anityatA of samsAra , crow show reality of worldly relations , surpa ( winnowing basket ) in hand show her power of creation , abhaya mudra show her ability to grace and realise the supreme and actual form of jivA that is bramhan at all.

Agreed that.Each form of Ambal is special.While Baglamukhi is famous for Stambhan, i heard Dhumvathi gives Mahasamadhi faster than other ugra murthis like Kali,chinnamasta.Hence my query.
In some sri vidya mandalis in south india, Dhumavathi is worshipped as anga vidya of Lalitha Tripurasundari.

Sounds peculiar that srIvidyA UpAsakas worship dhUmAvatI .( I assume
that they are shodhAsI or higher level UpAsakas. I think they worship her under pashimAnyA or UrdhvAmnAya , since she isn’t a direct anga vidhyA to lalithambA). As for as my knowledge dhUmavatI devI is angavidhyA of 1) Aghor mantra ( all three vedic , tantric, shAbara ) 2) sharbheshwara shAluvrAjA 3) Nrushimha 4) vanadurgA ( north indian tradition) 4) kAlashmakarshini / chandayogini ( heard of that but seen no pramAna )
5) According to kubjikopnishad she is family deity of pratyangIra.
As for as your query, dhUmAvatI sAdhanA invokes kulakundanI suddenly and thus kundanI moves to sahastrAra and sAdhaka attain state of samAdhI.Mantra of this mahAvidyA is such powerful that it invokes the saktI in sAdhaka very easily that’s why UpAsaka achive tivravairAgaya and kundalni jAgran .Hence a gUrU is must in this sAdhana .Also due to the above fact grihastAs / ladies are generally not allowed to do UpAsana of Ugra dhUmavatI.They are initiated in saubhAgya dhUmAvatI , which is a somya form.

mahA virbhadra upAsana can be practised in 4 ways
1) vedic ( using a special mantra of rUdraM )
2) Agamokta ( in accordance with shaiva Agamas)
3) tantrokta ( upAsana based on sAkta tantras , 21 letter mantra )
4) shAbara mArga ( different shAbar mantras , one among 52 veers )
As for as my knowledge (on behalf of devI purAna north Indian version ) mahAvirbhadra and bhadrakAlI were generated by Lord shiva for dakshyagnya vidhwansa . From Shiva’s ‘shrUngI’ ( a musical instrument made up of animal horn ) bhadrakAli was created and by a portion of his jatA (matted lock ) he created mahA virabhadra .For help of mahA virabhadra swamI he created sevral ‘pramaTha ganas’ from his krodha jwAla coming out of third eye .He appointed mahA virabhadra swamI as their leader and gave him a place among his nitya pArashads.
I posses a book published from peethambara peetha Datiya ( M.P.) which have mantra , yantra and angavidhyA of mahA virabhadra but unfortunately I’m in journey so can’t access it and mention angavidhyAs of mahA virabhadra swamI .

( It’s price was 30 INR when I purchased it 3 years back , another thing it is in sanskrit with devnAgrI script with essential hindI footnotes )

Sir this either depends upon your gurU or on the sAdhana you’re going to perform , for example in virasAdhana shAbara deities can’t protect or help but in normal sadhana they can help you, all deities are powerful only due to our dual state we consider one more powerful and other less. But narsimhA, sharbheshwara , vArtAlI , jaya durga ,sudarshan and bhairava are deities which help in removal of fear .

It depends on guru krama . Deity differs from sampradAya to sampradAya for example vaishnavas have narsimhA , shaivas have kAlAgni rudra , virbhadra, aghoreshwara and sharbheshwara. SAktas have pratardana durgA , bhadrakAli , kAlabhairava and batuka bhairava etc .

I worship dhumavati but not the full fledged one….just mental worship and dhyan. as very less material is available of her so there are many misconception. I want to chant her name but fear about the energy it may produce and which I may cant handle. because I m not a full fledged sadhak. its been may be 4 or 5 years I have been studying about her and about the underlying meaning it conveys whether on the material or spiritual level. its just my fear of not able to handle the vibrational energy of her(or any deity in this regard) that I don’t chant much but I do think about her much. so can you guide me if I can chant her name and the precaution which I should take.

Chanting name and chanting mantra are two different things and last one needs a proper sadgUrU. For mahavidyas chanting mantra is to be preferred. If you are married n doing dhUmAvatI please do mantra tyagaM ( as shAstra restricts her upasana to brahmacharin , vanprastha , kulavdhuta and sanyasins except one form SaubhAgya dhUmAvatI which a gruhastha can do ) if not try to get initiation from proper sAdhakas. Even name taking needs precaution for her , she provides ugra vairAgya hence advisable gruhasthaa should not do her upasana.
